David R. Floyd-Jones

David Richard Floyd -Jones ( born April 6, 1813 in Massapequa, Oyster Bay (then Queens, now Nassau County), Long Iceland, New York, † January 8, 1871 ) was an American lawyer and politician (Democratic Party).

Career

David Richard Floyd -Jones attended the Christ Church Academy in Manhasset and then graduated in 1832 from Union College. He studied law in Schenectady, was admitted to the bar and then began in 1835 in New York City on practicing.

Floyd -Jones also pursued a political career. He represented 1841-1843 Manhattan in the New York State Assembly. After that, he was from 1844 to 1847 in the Senate from New York. He returned again in 1857 back to the New York State Assembly, where he has represented Queens. Then he held from 1860 to 1861 the post of Secretary of State of New York. During the subsequent American Civil War, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of New York, a position he held from 1863 to 1864.

Family

David Richard Floyd -Jones was the son of Brigadier General Thomas Floyd -Jones (1788-1851) and Cornelia Haring Jones Floyd Jones ( † 1839). He was married to Mary Louisa Stanton Floyd -Jones. The couple had seven children together. He was also related to Colonel DeLancey Floyd -Jones.
