David Raksin

David Raksin ( August 4, 1912 in Philadelphia *, † August 9, 2004 in Van Nuys, California ) was an American composer of film music and lecturer in film music UCLA.

Raksin is considered one of the most important composers in American film history. In all, he wrote the music for over 170 feature films and television shows. One of his best known works is the theme song of the classic film Laura, which was created in 1944, directed by Otto Preminger. For the 1947 film adaptation resulting Amber, the great courtesan ( Forever Amber ) Raksin wrote the film score, for which he received an Oscar nomination. Also worth mentioning are the 1952 resulting film city of illusions, and the late Western The Daring starring Charlton Heston, which was released in 1968.

The last years of his life was Raksin sick. He also suffered from Alzheimer's disease at an early stage. David Raksin is the father of Pulitzer Prize winner Alex Raksin.
