David Rovics

David Rovics ( born April 10, 1967 in New York City ) is a singer-songwriter and political activist from the United States. His music includes topics such as the 2003 Iraq war, globalization / globalization critique and social justice, but also about historical social movements, such as the 1930s and 1960s. Rovics is a great critic of George W. Bush, as well as John Kerry.

Rovics grew up in Wilton (Connecticut). His parents were both musicians, so also he made himself from an early age music.

Although most of his works are registered and sold commercially, they are also available for free as an MP3 file on his website. He encourages the free distribution of his work. He offers his music, among other things through iTunes, but feels the price of 99 cents per song as "too high". Rovics also suggested to use his songs on protest marches and demonstrations, for which he has prepared notes and lyrics online. Rovics is a member of the union Industrial Workers of the World.

David Rovics is married and has one daughter. That inspired him to write songs for children. He now lives with his family in Portland ( Oregon).
