David Russell (guitarist)

David Russell ( born 1953 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish- Spanish classical guitarist.

Russell was born in Glasgow, but grew up in Migjorn Gran in Menorca on. He studied, among others, at the Royal Academy of Music in London and has won numerous international guitar competitions, including the 1977 San Francisco Tárrega Competition and twice the Julian Bream Guitar Prize.

Russell took far more than 20 albums and won with Aire Latino Grammy 2005 in the category "Best solo instrument performance without orchestra ". In his recordings Russell covers a broad spectrum of classical guitar music from the Renaissance to contemporary compositions.

In addition to the recordings are also numerous works of Russell editions and edits, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti, Enrique Granados and Isaac Albéniz ago. Since 1997, Russell Fellow, since fall 2010 Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
