David Stewart, Duke of Rothesay

David Stewart (* October 24, 1378, † March 26 1402 in Falkland Palace, Fife ) was from 1390 Scottish heir to the throne, and from 1398 Duke of Rothesay. He was also a holder of the title of Earl of Atholl (1398-1402) and Earl of Carrick ( 1390-1402 ).

David Stewart was the son of the Scottish king Robert III. and his wife Annabella Drummond. Due to the illness of his father, he was passed in 1399 as a dispute with the neighboring England, declared Guardian of Scotland. His main opponent in the home, his uncle Robert Stewart, 1st Duke of Albany, had provided up to that point for the protection of the kingdom. He took David captured and imprisoned him. David Stewart died in 1402 under mysterious circumstances, probably at the instigation of Albany itself to legend, he starved himself to death.

David was, 3rd Earl of Douglas married Marjorie Douglas, daughter of Archibald Douglas, the marriage remained childless. In 1406 David's younger brother ascended as James I. as a follow up to their common Father Robert III. the Scottish throne.
