David Stewart (Maryland)

David Stewart (* September 13, 1800 in Baltimore, Maryland, † January 5, 1858 ibid ) was an American politician ( Whig Party ), who represented the state of Maryland for a short time in the U.S. Senate.

After completing his schooling, David Stewart wrote one at the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University. He graduated in 1819 from Union College in Schenectady (New York), before he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1821 and commenced practice in Baltimore as a lawyer.

His short political career began on 6 December 1849, when he was appointed to the U.S. Senate. There he took the place of Reverdy Johnson, the U.S. Attorney General had been previously couple of months earlier. Since he did not compete at the official election, Stewart had his seat in Congress already on January 12, 1850 re- grant for Thomas Pratt. He worked in the result again as a lawyer in Baltimore, where he died in 1858 also.
