David Stockman

David Alan Stockman ( born November 10, 1946 in Fort Hood, Texas) is an American politician. Between 1977 and 1981 he represented the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives. After that he belonged until 1985 as director of the Office of Management and Budget to the Cabinet of the United States.

Career

David Stockman attended the public schools in St. Joseph (Michigan). In 1964 he graduated from Lakeshore High School. Subsequently, he studied until 1968 at Michigan State University in East Lansing, and intermittently until 1975 at the Harvard University.

Politically, Stockman became a member of the Republican Party. Between 1970 and 1972 he was on the staff of Congressman John B. Anderson of Illinois. Between 1972 and 1975 he was Managing Director of the Group of Republican Congressman (Executive Director of the Republican Conference). In the congressional elections of 1976 he was in the fourth electoral district of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edward Hutchinson on January 3, 1977. After two re- elections he could remain until his resignation on 27 January 1981 at the Congress.

Stockmann resigned because he had been appointed by President Ronald Reagan as Director of the Office of Management and Budget in the Cabinet. This office he held until August 1, 1985. During the following years Stockman worked in the private sector. From 1985 to 1988 he was a director of the New York-based City Bank Salomon Brothers. After that he served on the Board of several investment companies. In 2003, Stockman became CEO of the company Collins & Aikman, who worked in the automotive industry and later went bankrupt. Here he came under suspicion of fraud. However, there was no charge.

David Stockman is married to Jennifer lead, with whom he has two children.
