David Wilkie (swimmer)

David Wilkie ( born March 8, 1954 in Sri Lanka ) is a former Scottish swimmer.

He celebrated his first international success at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970, when he won the bronze in the 200m breaststroke. In these games, he was the first swimmer wearing a swimming cap at a major competition. At the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, he won the 200m breast with a silver medal his first Olympic medal. Four years later he was his medal collection the gold medal in the 200m breaststroke and a silver medal over 100 meters add chest, which he won in Montreal in the 1976 Olympic Games. In the years 1973 and 1975 he also became world champion over 200 meters breaststroke and 1974 European champion in the 200m individual medley and 200m breaststroke.

In 1982 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
