David Zvi Hoffmann

David Hoffmann ( born November 23, 1843 in Verbo, Empire Austria, † November 20, 1921 in Berlin) was a Jewish scholar, Bible and Talmud researchers, opponents of biblical criticism, provided, inter alia, translation and commentary on Leviticus and Deuteronomy (1905 f, 1913 ff ) The Shulchan Aruch (1885 ).

He studied from 1866 to 1868 Philosophy and Oriental Studies in Vienna, then to 1870 in Berlin and Tübingen, where he received his doctorate in 1871. Since 1873 he was a lecturer at the Rabbinical Seminary in Berlin, since 1899 also rector of the seminary.
