Daviess County (Indiana)

Daviess County is a county located in the U.S. state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Washington.

Geography

The County is located in southwestern Indiana, is located in the west about 40 miles from Illinois and has an area of ​​1131 square kilometers, of which 16 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Greene County, Martin County, Dubois County, Pike County and Knox County.

History

Daviess County was formed on December 24, 1816 from parts of Knox County. It was named the U.S. Army, who was killed at the Battle of Tippecanoe by Joseph Hamilton Daviess, a Colonel.
