Dawn Song

Dawn Xiaodong Song ( born 1975 ) is a Chinese -born American computer scientist and specialist in computer security. She is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

Song studied at Tsinghua University (Bachelor 1996), at Carnegie Mellon University (Master 's degree in 1999 ) and received his doctorate at the University of Berkeley, 2002. From 2002, she was Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University and from 2007 Associate Professor at the University of Berkeley.

Song takes a system-wide access to computer security (software, hardware, networks ), for example with semantic analysis of the binary code ( BitBlaze project). She also developed cryptographic algorithms to protect sensitive information in applications ( Seaglass Project).

In 2010 she won the " Genius Award" of the MacArthur Foundation. Other prices were the IBM Faculty Award ( 2005), the George Tallman Ladd Research Award ( 2006), a fellowship from the Sloan Foundation and the Best Paper Award at the USENIX Security Symposium.
