Dawsonville is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in Dawson County and has 619 (2000) inhabitants.

Dawsonville, founded in 1857, is the county seat of administration ( County Seat). The name of the place goes back to William C. Dawson, a company in the war led in 1836 against the Muskogee Indians and member of the U.S. Senate, was from 1849 to 1855.

The most prominent citizens of the city is the NASCAR race car driver Bill Elliott, the city dedicated a museum. He wears among others the nickname " Awesome Bill from Dawsonville " as a tribute to his hometown.

24 km northwest of the city lies the Amicalola Falls State Park with the highest waterfalls in the eastern United States.
