Dayton Bombers

The Dayton Bombers were an American Hockey franchise from Dayton, Ohio. Despite their long ECHL affiliation the Bombers winning the Kelly Cup was denied.

History

The franchise was founded in 1991 and took his game to operating in the East Coast Hockey League. Head coach was Claude Noël, who is also the Columbus Blue Jackets should train in the NHL later. In their first season the Bombers reached the play-offs, but subject in the first round of the Cincinnati Cyclones. In the following season, the results improved slightly and Dayton reached the second playoff round, but again lost already in three games against the Nashville Knights. In the following years the Bombers reached the play-offs, although constant, but never progressed beyond the second round. In the 1994/95 season, the Bombers won in the regular season 93 points, which they narrowly missed winning the North Division. In the following seven seasons succeeded Dayton each of the draw in the final round in the play- offs failed the Bombers again in the second round.

In the season 2001/ 02, the Bombers won 92 points and won the Northwest Division for the first time. After being defeated in the play- offs the Cincinnati Cyclones, Johnstown Chiefs and the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, Dayton reached the finals for the first time to the Kelly Cup. After only four games were subject to the Bombers the Greenville Grrrowl. After this brief failure, broke shortly thereafter the team and missed with only a maximum of 58 points in the next four years the play-offs clear. The Bombers also occupied three times the last place of their division. In the season 2006 /07, the Bombers managed a significant increase of 37 points compared to last year, so they could win the Northern Division. In the play-offs they defeated the Trenton Titans, Cincinnati Cyclones and Florida Everblades. In the finals at the Kelly Cup, the team from Ohio was defeated in five games to the Idaho Steelheads. In its latest 2008/ 09, the Dayton Bombers missed the finals again. Then, the franchise was disbanded due financial problems.
