The James M. Cox Dayton International Airport (short: Dayton International Airport ) is an international airport 14 km north of Dayton in the village of Vandalia, Ohio, United States.
History
The airport was founded by local entrepreneurs as Dayton Airport Inc. in March 1928. The company repurchased approximately 126 hectares of land in the village of Vandalia. 1936, the airport was sold to the city of Dayton, with the support of the politician James M. Cox and renamed Dayton Municipal Airport. The next name changes found in 1944 in Dayton Army Airfield and 1952 in James M. Cox Dayton Municipal Airport instead .. Its present name was determined in 1975 as the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport.
Today, the airport is the third largest in Ohio to the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the Port Columbus International Airport. Every year takes place the Vectren Dayton Air Show at the airport.
