DB AG is a long-distance railway undertakings (RUs ) for the distance rail passenger transport. The company's headquarters is located in Frankfurt am Main, in the office building of the former headquarters of Deutsche Bahn AG. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of DB Mobility Logistics AG.

The DB long-distance transport provides national and pan-European long-distance services. Types of trains operated by the DB long-distance transport, the ICE, InterCity and Euro City trains. Subsidiaries

For the operation of car and night passenger trains its subsidiary DB AutoZug GmbH was founded with headquarters in Dortmund. On 1 October 2013, the DB AutoZug GmbH was merged with DB long-distance transport.

Economic situation

Unlike its sister company DB Regio DB long-distance transport operates commercially.

After an operating result ( EBIT) of 364 million euros in fiscal 2012, the company announced in August 2013, no longer to achieve this result in consequence of the flood of 2013.

In Germany there are few companies that operate long-distance trains on its own account, so that DB long-distance transport can operate virtually without competition. Currently (as of 2012) are in the domestic long-distance passenger three other companies that offer a regular long-distance transport:

  • Night train Berlin- Malmö
  • Hamburg -Osnabrück -Duisburg and Cologne

History

The company went as DB Reise & Touristik AG forth on 1 January 1999, under the second stage of the railway reform from the business sector long-distance transport of Deutsche Bahn AG. It changed its name to 2003 under that name.

Renewal of the vehicle fleet
