DDR-Oberliga (ice hockey)

For the 1950/51 season was the German Sport Committee (DS ) - the counterpart to the former German figure skating association - approved the introduction of a league. Starting from the season 1952/53, the league was named Serie A, as a second level leagues named league was created under. With the 1955/56 season the second division was renamed the 1st League and created a second league game as a third class including above the district championships. As of August 1958, the German Skating Union of the GDR ( DELV ) also the sport Hockey managed alongside the other Eisportarten. As of 1962/ 63, the third game class has been renamed to the group league. From the 1965/66 season the second level leagues was abolished, so that the group league was now the 2nd level leagues. From the 1970/71 season the league was disbanded group. Below the higher divisions of the district championships was carried out from 1970 /71 a best determination of the winner. A promotion to the Oberliga was abolished. With the season 1974/75 the best investigation was divided into two play groups, so that in fact a level below the league was introduced with the best determination Class A again. For the season 1990/91 the two Oberliga SG Dynamo White Water and SC Dynamo Berlin have been included in the Hockey League.

Mode

The ice hockey league mode has been changed several times: Until the season 1958/59 the league was played as a round. For the season 1959/60 of the league mode has been changed, so that was first played in a relay preliminaries and then in a final round of the Masters and in a relegation round of the losers. For the 1961/62 season of change to a single-track preliminary round followed by finals and relegation round was decided. And starting from the season 1962/63 was again to return to the mode of a single round. From 1965/66 the teams were qualified in the squares 1 to 3 from the previous season for the final round, this was the winner of the first round. The preliminary contest the teams ranked 4-8 pre-season 1964 /65. From the 1967/68 season to return to the mode of a single round with all teams took place. For the 1968/69 season, the mode has been changed so that the league was played out in the form of a preliminary round of single round followed by finals and relegation round. For the 1969/70 season took part in the preliminary round, the places 3-7 pre-season and in addition to the final round to square 1 and 2 of the preliminary round nor square 1 and 2 of the preseason. From the 1970/71 season the league was played only 2 teams. Up to and including the 1985/86 season this took the form of a multiple round. From the season 1986/87 the mode has been changed to 3 play-off series, which were used in each case according to the mode best of three with changing venue. Champion was the team that won two of the three series. For the 1989/90 season, the mode has been expanded to four playoff series.
