The stadium De Adelaarshorst ( German: The Eagle's Nest ) is a football stadium in the city ostniederländischen Deventer, Overijssel province. It is the home of the athletic Go Ahead Eagles Deventer.

History

The stadium was built in 1920 after the club was in 1917 by Dutch masters. After the second national championship in 1922 began the construction of a new grandstand, completed in 1924. In the 1950s, as the Eagles played in the first Dutch league, the venue had three stands. On September 29, 1965, the attendance record was set in the stadium. In the preliminary round of the European Cup Winners' Cup Go Ahead Eagles Deventer met the Scottish team Celtic Glasgow. For this game were 25,000 spectators. In the 1980s, the capacity of the stadium dropped significantly from nearly 25,000 to about 6,700 places, as the opposite stand Ijsseltribune were rebuilt by standing on seats. The seats for this came from the Feyenoord Stadium in Rotterdam.

The stadium is now in a residential area of the city and has four covered seat grandstands that are close on the sidelines. The plastic seats in the stands are decorated in the club colors of yellow and red. The last renovation took place in the sports complex in 2006. There the old seats from Rotterdam were replaced with seats from the old stadium Alkmaarderhout of AZ Alkmaar. The stadium holds 6,700 spectators and meets all safety requirements of the Dutch Football Association KNVB.

For one game, the Dutch national football team came into the eyrie of Deventer. In the World Cup qualifier Iceland had home advantage; but was played in the Netherlands.
