De Dannan

De Dannan, originally Dé Danann, is an Irish folk band, from the number of successful soloists such as Maura O'Connell, Mary Black and Dolores Keane emerged. The name refers to the Tuatha Dé Danann, Irish for the Irish indigenous population.

History

The band was founded in 1974 in the Irish-speaking Spiddal, County Galway,. The founding members were the fiddler Frankie Gavin, Alec Finn ( bouzouki ), Charlie Piggott ( banjo, flute) and Johnny McDonnagh ( bodhrán ). Singers alternated several times. On this debut album Dolores Keane was heard, then followed Andy Irvine and Johnny Moynihan. Early 1980s had De Dannan with singer Maura O'Connell especially in the Irish -born population in the United States great success. Your album Star -Spangled Molly was a tribute to the Irish contribution to American culture. Until 1986, then Mary Black frontwoman was the band. The band expanded her repertoire by using other music styles like klezmer or Baroque music.

In the 1990s, with Colm Murphy instead McDonagh on bodhrán, the band recorded versions of pop hits in the Irish garb. Thus, from the Queen hit Bohemian Rhapsody the Hibernian Rhapsody. The Eagles were in 2000 with their song Hotel California inspiration for the Hotel Connemara.
