De De Pierce

Dee Dee Pierce, also DeDe Pierce, actually Joseph De Larois Pierce, ( born February 18, 1904 in New Orleans, † 23 November 1973 ) was a trumpeter and vocalist of the New Orleans Jazz.

Pierce played in brass bands (like the D' Jalma Garnier Brass Band, which he directed after the death of Garnier ) had, from 1927 to 1932 with drummer Arnold You Pas a quartet and toured in 1933 with Paul Barnes.

In 1935 he married the pianist Billie Pierce with which he led his own bands. In the 1950s, her ensemble was the house band in Luthjen 's Dance Hall and he played with her in the 1960s, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, with whom she toured in 1967 in Germany, and in 1968 played in New York.

Pierce also played with George Lewis, accompanied Ida Cox and was in the Young Tuxedo Brass Band. In 1951 he played in the Silver Leaf Brass Band. He went blind in the 1950s and retired after a while back, but then again was active as a musician.
