De Gasperi V Cabinet

The Cabinet De Gasperi V ruled Italy on 23 May 1948 to 26 January 1950. Previously ruled the Cabinet De Gasperi IV, after the Cabinet De Gasperi VI. The government of Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi was supported by the following parties in Parliament:

  • Christian Democracy (DC)

  • Partito Repubblicano Italiano ( PRI)
  • Partito Liberal Italiano ( PLI)

On January 1, 1948, the new Constitution of the Republic of Italy came into force, which had been drafted by the Constituent Assembly. On the basis of the new Constitution were held on 18 April 1948, the first regular elections of the Republic, who won the Christian De Gasperi. The newly constituted Parliament elected on May 12, Luigi Einaudi for the first Italian President. Because of the new, normalized political situation De Gasperi resigned with his fourth cabinet. His new fifth cabinet remained almost unchanged. The government coalition ended in early 1950 due to the exit of the Liberals.
