De Havilland Firestreak

The Fairey Firestreak was an air - to-air missile during the Cold War from a British production. Manufacturer was Fairey Aviation. It was controlled by the radar of the carrier machine, which had to pursue the goal; the rocket had infra-red proximity ignition. Mostly BAC Lightning interceptors of the Royal Air Force were armed with her. Serving the rocket of 1958 stood until 1988. Early as 1964 it was replaced by the Hawker Siddeley Red Top. Firestreak but were further used in limited numbers, as they improved the flight characteristics of the Lightnings. Other winners were the de Havilland Sea Vixen and Gloster Javelin.
