De syv søstre

The Seven Sisters ( bokmål: De syv søstre or Sju søstre, nynorsk Dei sju søstre ) is a mountain formation of seven mountains in Norway.

Location

The Seven Sisters extend from north to south on the island Alsten south of Sandnessjøen.

On the west side leads them along the coastal road Rv17, from where you can see all the peaks simultaneously only in a short section.

A better view of all the mountain peaks offers from the viewer by a ship. Inter alia runs daily Hurtigruten along the way Sandnessjøen to Brønnøysund on the west side of the mountains along. The east side, however, one can see at a ferry crossing from Tjøtta after Forvik from afar.

The Sage

The Seven Sisters reached on regional and tourist awareness, especially through the associated with their legend of the Torghatten (Detailed Forecast qv). According to legend, it should have been seven virgins who prostrated themselves exhausted after a chase by the king Hestmannen. At sunrise they petrified.

The mountains

In particular, there are the seven sisters of the following mountains ( north to south):

  • Botnkrona ( 1072 m )
  • Grytfoten ( 1019 m)
  • Skjæringen ( 1037 m)
  • Tvillingene - dt: Gemini (980 m and 945 m)
  • Kvasstinden (1010 m)
  • Breitinden (910 m)

All peaks can be overcome without mountaineering equipment. There are at the foot of the mountains designated parking spaces with appropriate signage for the paths to the summit.

From time to time take place race over all 7 summits. The existing record is 3 hours and 54 minutes from the year 1994.
