Death in Paradise (TV series)

Death in Paradise is a British-French television series that is produced for the BBC and France Télévisions since 2011. The series is the first work of Robert Thorogood, who was discovered in a screenplay competition. It is a mixture of comedy, drama and thriller. The film was shot almost entirely on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. The main characters are Ben Miller and Sara Martins are seen. In Germany, the pay-TV FOX has secured the broadcast rights for the first season and it shows since May 24, 2012 on Thursdays. As of July 30, 2012 showed ZDFneo every Monday two episodes of the first season.

Action

The London investigator Detective Inspector Richard Poole is sent to the ( fictional ) Caribbean island of Saint -Marie to investigate the crimes of violence against one of his colleagues in the field. The dreamlike Caribbean flair makes him however to create, and so he is with his new post as chief investigator is far from satisfactory. As meticulous suits him he meets a complete stranger Caribbean mentality, which always provides entertaining situations.

The episodes each act of a closed criminal case, and stand in the tradition of classic English whodunit: The eccentric detective gathered at the culmination of the story the suspects and presents the always surprising resolution.

Production

For France Télévisions is the first co-production of a dramedy series with a foreign broadcaster. Since FTV was inspired by the script, was allowed itself to a partnership with the BBC. Filming began in early 2011 in Guadeloupe. The film was shot primarily in the town of Deshaies. The production lasted 100 days and cost 3.7 million euros.

Less than a month after the broadcast of the final episode of the first season the production of a second season with eight episodes have been officially announced. On 12 February 2013, the production of a third season has been announced, which will consist of eight episodes again. Shortly after the extension was announced that Ben Miller left the show during the third season and is replaced by Kris Marshall, who will embody the new Detective Humphrey Goodman. Shortly before the broadcast of Season Finals of Season Death in Paradise was renewed in February 2014 for a fourth season.
