Death spiral (figure skating)

The death spiral (English death spiral ) is an element in pair skating. The partner is almost horizontally held above the ice on one leg sliding and only the outstretched arm of the partner by the hand, pulled to the body axis. The following are variants of the death spiral:

  • Death spiral forward-outward
  • Death spiral forward-inward
  • Death spiral backward - away
  • Death spiral backward inward

Difficulty level

The death spiral can be divided into the following three levels, depending on their difficulty. Level 1 is the easiest, level 2 and level 3 the more difficult the most difficult implementation of the death spiral. The difficulty level is determined by the technical specialists.

Level 1

Death spiral includes the following feature:

  • Basic input and output with simple position variants of each partner (body, arm, leg )

Level 2

Death spiral contains one of the following features:

  • More difficult variation of the input
  • More difficult variation of the output
  • More difficult variation of the hand position of the Lord
  • The lady changes her body position at least once
  • Implementation of death spiral in both directions (clockwise and counterclockwise), followed by the immediate succession.

Level 3

Death spiral includes 2 of the following features for the short program, or 3 for the free program:

  • More difficult variation of the input
  • More difficult variation of the output
  • More difficult variation of the hand position of the Lord
  • The lady changes her body position at least once
  • Difficult positions of the Lord ( other than ordinary backward - turning outward )
  • Implementation of death spiral in both directions (clockwise and counterclockwise), followed by the immediate succession.
