Debbie Halvorson

Deborah L. " Debbie " Halvorson (* March 1, 1958 in Chicago Heights, Illinois) is an American politician. Between 2009 and 2011, she represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Debbie Halvorson grew up in Steger and attended Bloom High School. She worked for 13 years as a shop for cosmetic products before they decided on a political career in public service. At the same time, she continued her education. In 1998 she graduated from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. She then studied until 2001 at the Governors State University. Politically, she joined the Democratic Party. From 1993 to 1996 she worked in the municipality of Crete Township. Between 1997 and 2008, Halvorson was in the Illinois Senate. There she was a member of three committees and three subcommittees. Since 2005, she led the Democratic group.

In the congressional elections of 2008, Halvorson was the eleventh electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they succeeded the Republican Jerry Weller on January 3, 2009. Since she lost in 2010 against Adam Kinzinger, she was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 2011. She was a member of the Committee on Agriculture and the Committee on Small Business, and in four sub-committees.

In 2012, Halvorson aspired to return to Congress, but lost significantly in the primary of their party against incumbent Jesse Jackson Jr. After his resignation before the start of the new term of office they ran for the Democratic nomination for the overdue election in April 2013 but this time was Robin Kelly failed in 24:52 percent of the vote.

Debbie Halvorson is married and lives in Crete.
