Debits and credits

Target is a term from the commercial accounting and denotes the left side of an account as opposed to the right credit side. It is a bookkeeping - technical term that refers to the page in the account. The origin of debits and credits is explained by Baldwin Penndorf as follows:

" The accounts title followed the target and having that deve dare - deve avere ( to give - to have ). Later fell on both sides off the deve (target ) so that only dare and avere ( give and have ) remained in Italy; while in Germany the left and right indicate the target was eliminated, so that we apply debit and credit in Germany today. "

For each account is determined by the posting logic of double entry when it is posted " in target ":

  • On a profit and loss account reservation at the target represents an effort.
  • Receipts are posted to the debit on an active stock account ( so, for example, with a receipt of payment from a customer by bank transfer the account "Bank" posted in the set ).
  • On the other hand, a passive stock account shows a debit posting to a disposal ( for example, the reduction of a liability when it is paid ).
