Decarbonylation

As decarbonylation refers to a chemical reaction, is cleaved from a molecule in a molecule of carbon monoxide (CO). Such spin-offs of CO are known, inter alia, for ketones, aldehydes and carbonyl and run most radically from. The introduction of such reactions is done by free-radical initiators, photochemically or thermally.

There are also known electrophilic and base-catalyzed decarbonylation.

Decarbonylation of aldehydes is sometimes referred to deformylation.
