Decatur County (Indiana)

Decatur County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Greensburg.

Geography

The County is located in the central south-east of Indiana, is in the east about 80 miles from Ohio, located in the south about 100 miles from Kentucky and has an area of 967 square kilometers, of which two square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Rush County, Franklin County, Ripley County, Jennings County, Bartholomew County and Shelby County.

History

Decatur County was formed on 31 December 1821 as original county of free territory. It was named after Stephen Decatur, a commander of the Navy and national hero.
