Decatur County (Tennessee)

The Decatur County eez a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. In 2010, the County had 11,757 inhabitants and a population density of 13.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Decaturville.

Geography

The County is located in west-central Tennessee on the west bank of the Tennessee River. It has an area of 893 square kilometers, of which 29 square kilometers are water surface. At the Decatur County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Decatur County was formed in November 1845 from parts of Perry County. It was named after Stephen Decatur (1779-1820), an American naval officer commanding, among other things in the British -American War.
