Decimomannu

Decimomannu is a town in Sardinia with 7954 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The municipality belongs to the province of Cagliari, just a few kilometers north- west of the regional capital.

History

Decimomannu has Phoenician and Roman origins. The Sardinian name of the place comes from the Latin decimo at urbe Karali miliario what " 10 miles away from Cagliari " means ( on the river Rio Mannu ).

Traffic

Decimomannu has a railway station, branch off from the railway lines from Cagliari to Sassari and to Iglesias. He is also the terminus of the Servizio di Cagliari ferroviario metropolitano.

Decimomannu is known outside of Sardinia, mainly because of the military airfield just north of the village.
