Decimus Laberius

Decimus Laberius (* 105 BC, † 43 BC) was a Roman knight and a famous poet mimes.

Laberius BC was forced in his 60th year 45 by Gaius Julius Caesar, acting himself ( in competition with Publilius Syrus ) in one of his mimes. Its prologue, in which he laments his fate in a striking manner, is handed down. He received the forfeited by his appearance on the stage knighthood back from the dictator.

From its offbeat humor and his bold Sprachbildnerei give the resulting fragments of about 40 mimes manifold samples ( collected in Ribbeck Comicorum Romanorum fragmenta, 2nd Edition, Leipzig. 1873).
