Decize
Decize is a French town with 5733 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nièvre in the Burgundy region. It is the administrative seat of the eponymous canton Decize.
Geography
The city lies on the River Loire, just on the junction of the right tributary Aron. Next door also opens the Canal du Nivernais, who has overcome starting from Auxerre, the Morvan mountains. After crossing the Loire find here not navigable watercraft connection to the south of the Loire Canal running in the Loire ( German: Loire Lateral Canal ).
History
Originally Decetia was the name of a Gallo -Roman oppidum, which was already mentioned by Caesar in his commentaries. Due to its favorable location was later Decize to a busy trading center.
