Decortication

As decortication (Latin decorticatio debarking ) refers to a surgical removal of diseased, usually thickened by scarring organ capsules or cases. The decortication is usually necessary, since a mechanical stiffening of animal organs to an increase in pressure or impairment of organ motion can result. This is indicated ( as Kardiolyse ) or the visceral and parietal leaves the pulmonary pleura particularly at a decortication of the pericardium of the heart. The latter describes the combined man with a pleurectomy as Delorme operation that is performed for malignant diseases of the lung such as the pleural or after a Pleuratuberkulose.

The decortication is also in pathological changes in the renal cortex and the substantia compacta ( cortical ) bone apply in severe osteomyelitis.
