Decree on Peace

The Decree on Peace (Russian Декрет о мире / Decree o mire ) was the first decree of the new workers 'and peasants' government. By the October Revolution of 24-25 October was created. The decree led to peace negotiations between Russia and Germany and allowed the Peace Treaty of Brest- Litovsk in 1918.

This decree matters in addition to the decree on land and the Decree on the Rights of the Peoples of Russia, the three so-called coup decrees, by which the new Bolshevik Russian leadership wanted as quickly as possible to win broad support in the population.

The decree contained demands for the immediate start of peace negotiations in all the belligerent countries and condemned secret international agreements and treaties. Lenin described therein his idea of ​​the new proletarian internationalism, which provided equal rights for all the independence of all peoples and governments of nations and respect. As an immediate measure, the decree proposed a truce for three months.

This decree is considered the first by a state organ authored document at all, which condemns war as a means of resolving conflicts.
