Dede Allen

Dede Allen ( born December 3, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, † April 17, 2010 in Los Angeles, actually Dorothea Carothers Allen) was an American film editor.

Life and work

Before she made as a film editor in the film industry career, she worked first as a messenger and then as Assistant Editor for Columbia Pictures. Subsequently, she worked as an editor for commercials, until finally in 1958 with Terror from the Year 5000 her first feature film section.

The 1967 film shot Bonnie and Clyde meant the first collaboration with director Arthur Penn, others followed. In 1973, she first worked with Sidney Lumet and there was Serpico. For the common movie dog days Dede Allen was nominated in 1976 for the first time for the Academy Award for Best Editing. She was also being awarded to the British Film Award.

The film shot in 1981 Reds, where she was also involved as an executive producer, earned her her second Oscar nomination. In 2001 she was nominated for Wonder Boys for the third time for this award.

In 1994, Allen was awarded by the American Cinema Editors with the Career Achievement Award. Five years later, she received the same award at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards.

She was married and mother of two children since 1945. Born in 1951, son Tom Fleischman has worked as a sound engineer and sound engineer in the film business.
