Dededo is with 45,000 inhabitants, is the most populous settlement on Guam and its school center.

Dededo is located in the northern part of the Pacific island.

History

Before the second world war there was the place at the foot of Macheche Hill on road No 16 after the village was destroyed in the war, the Naval Government resettled the inhabitants to the present site. 1962 destroyed the typhoon Karen most of the previously typical local wooden houses. With the help of the authorities new buildings were built for the families.

Name

The name of the former village of Dededo can be attributed to two meanings, where one is not agree as to what is true.

  • Dededo means as much as two fingers in an old, no longer commonly used system of measurement.
  • Maybe, but the name also comes from the term dedeggo that describes a person who quietly moved away on tiptoe.

Dededo is divided into several sections and parts. These include:

  • Liguan Terrace, Emperor, Y Paopao,
  • Sagan Y papao, Astumbo, remote Terrace
  • Harmon Gardens, Harmon Court, Macheche Village,
  • Benson Village, Standard Group, Finegayan,
  • Ukudo, Asadas and Wusstig.
