Dedoplistsqaro

Dedopliszqaro (Georgian დედოფლისწყარო, also in the form Dedoplis Zqaro ) is a city in eastern Georgia, in the Kakheti region. It is the administrative seat of the homonymous municipality and has about 7300 inhabitants Dedopliszqaro ( 2009).

Location

Dedopliszqaro lies some 120 kilometers in a straight line east-southeast of the provincial capital Tbilisi and 75 kilometers south-east of the regional capital Telavi on the southeastern end of the Gombori mountain train (Georgian გომბორის ქედი, Gomboris Kedi ), which runs through Kakheti and between the wide valley of the Alazani in the Northeast and the extending south-west, through which the medium Iori Iori plateau -like mountain separates. Just south of Dedopliszqaro reached the Gombori - mountain range with the Nikorasziche again a height of 1001 m, before he slowly turns in a southeasterly direction in the plane Schiraksteppe, which stretches to the Alazani which in its lower course marks the border with Azerbaijan there.

History

The place was first mentioned in medieval annals of the reign of King Dawit IV of the builder in the 1100s as a military post. According to tradition, the place name which means " royal source " refers to the Queen Tamar, who reigned around the year 1200.

After the annexation of Kakheti to the Russian Empire in 1801, the Imperial Russian Army established in 1803 near the village of a base, which should act as guards Dagestani rebels, and gave him in reference to the old name of the Russian name Zarskije Kolodzy (Russian Царские Колодцы, " Tsar wells "). 1869 left the German entrepreneur Carl and Werner von Siemens build the village a refinery for processing the far discovered oil, which was, however, only a few years in operation.

The place remains important military site and was also home during the brief period of independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia from 1918 to 1921 a significant garrison. So it was in the invasion of the Soviet Red Army on 18 February 1921 heavy fighting.

The Soviet authorities designated for the place in Zitelzqaro (Georgian წითელწყარო, " Red source "). The Russian form was first translated Krasnie Kolodzy (Russian Красные Колодцы ); in the 1930s came the adapted to the Georgian name variant Ziteli - Zkaro (Russian Цители - Цкаро ) in use. The town became the administrative center of a Rajons and initially received the status of an urban-type settlement, in 1963 the city rights.

In 1991 it was renamed the Dedopliszqaro.

Culture and sights

Not far Dedopliszqaro are the ruins of the medieval fortress Chornabudschi (Georgian ხორნაბუჯი ). The city has a museum of local history. On the territory of the municipality, about 40 kilometers southeast of the city, the Waschlowani National Park stretches.

Economy and infrastructure

Not far Dedopliszqaro limestone is mined and processed. In the city there are companies in the food and light industry.

The town is the end point ( distance 127 km from Tbilisi / Nawtlughi ) opened a 1951 and 1965 to 1966 electrified with 3000 V DC railway, the east of Katschreti of the route Tbilisi - Telavi branches. The track is out of service since 1992, but not degraded. The regional road for Dedopliszqaro branches in Chalaubani Sighnaghi far from the highway S 5 from which connects Tbilisi with the Azerbaijani border in Lagodechi, and runs along the southwestern flank of the Gombori mountain train. It goes on in the sparsely populated far east of the country.
