Deemster

A Deemster ( Manx: Briw ) is a judge on the Isle of Man. A Deemster or appeal judges chaired by the High Court of the Isle of Man. The Deemster also announce on Tynwald Day laws by making them read out loud to the people in English and Manx. Prior to 1980, the First and Second Deemster each had a seat in the upper house, the Legislative Council.

There are on the Isle of Man only three full-time judges or Deemster. These are the first Deemster, who also became deputy lieutenant governor and in the event of a vacancy of the office takes over its functions, the Second Deemster and the Deputy Deemster.
