Deensen

Deensen is a municipality of the velvet municipality Eschershausen City Oldendorf in the southeast of the district Holzminden in Lower Saxony.

Geography

It lies at the eastern edge of the Solling -Vogler. It is located south-southwest of the city Oldendorf between the highland and mountain ranges Homburg forest in the north - northeast, Elfas in the Northeast, Wood Mountain to the east, Solling in the south and Castle Hill in the west.

History

When Deensen was founded, is not certain. Also, the time of first mention is controversial, since some entries have the assignment to different villages. For the first time in 1220 there is a mention of the place Dede Husen, Deddenhusen in other documents of the 13th and 14th centuries. 1483 received Godewart von Campe the right, as a manor build the in the Hussite Wars ( 1419-1436 ) devastated village Deensen again and be filled with people after his favor. It was constructed a water castle, and people settled there around to. The water castle fell into disrepair over the centuries. 1825 was built on the foundations of the old moated castle tonight's mansion; Vaults and meter-thick sandstone walls still testify to the ancient time. The moat and later upper village pond were filled for the most part. Today there are only on the north side of the mansion a pond which extends to the walls. In 1970 the manor was sold after 500 years of ownership by the family von Campe. Since 1985, the former manor house with the stables used as a holiday and equestrian center.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • Mausoleum with 40 coffins which von Campe.
  • Located off the main street Lutheran Gutskirche St. Nicolai has its origins in the early 16th century (1502 ); the right of patronage lay with the family von Campe. Originally it was a St. Mary's Church. The present church is the third at this location. Older date are still some epitaphs and the font. 2002 was rebuilt; can also be used as a community center by installing a mobile full glass wall since then the church.
  • The site characterize half-timbered houses in the style of the Low German Hall houses.
