Deer Lodge is a city in Powell County, in the U.S. state of Montana. The town has 3421 inhabitants ( 2000) and an area of 3.7 km ². Deer Lodge is located about 100 km south-west of Helena and 1418 m above sea level. The place is also the county seat ( county seat ).

On the outskirts lies the Grant - Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site. It is the national memorial to the time of the Open Range end of the 19th century when private Rancher their flocks unregulated grazing on public lands and were driven by cowboys on long cattle drives to the railroad. It emerged from the ranch of " cattle baron " Conrad Kohrs and since 1972 has been owned by the federal government. The ranch is managed by the National Park Service and actively pursued. Visitors can experience the livestock industry in the style of the late 19th century and participate in living history demonstrations.
