Defari

Defari (* in Santa Monica, California, real name Duane Johnson, Jr.), also Defari Herut or LA 's Own Billy the Kidd, is an American rapper.

Biography

Defari already started in 1982 to deal with music, in the beginning, however, still as a DJ before he started rapping in 1987. Nevertheless, he treated the whole is more than a hobby and was more concerned with his career. He studied sociology at the University of California at Berkeley, eventually reaching a master's degree in history and education at Columbia University. He then took a job as a high school teacher.

The turning point in his life began when he decided in 1994 to producer & rapper of Tha Alkaholiks, E- Swift met. Along with it, he took on a few songs and was immediately on the Likwit Crew, Tha Alkaholiks & King along with tea. His songs he sent to different labels, one of which finally Tommy Boy Records signed him and he was able in 1999 to record his debut album.

Due to the failure of this album ended the contract and he published the successor independent on ABB Records under his pseudonym LA 's Own Billy the Kidd.

Meanwhile he had met the rapper Xzibit, who also was part of the Likwit Crew, and had just published with the help of Dr. Dre, an award- platinum album. Xzibit signed him for his newly founded record label, Open Bar Entertainment and took him on his world tour. After he had played there before in some cases very large audience, he realized his own words, that he would rather make music in smaller circles. The contract was dissolved by mutual agreement and the 2003 album re-released on independent High Times.

In the same year he returned to ABB Records, where initially a collection of unreleased songs was taken from him as EP on the market.

This was followed with DJ Babu of the Dilated Peoples, with whom he had worked on each of his albums, an album under the group name Likwit Junkies.

In 2006, he released his third solo album Street Music officially.
