Community structure

The community Deinste consists of two districts. The two villages Deinste and Helmste are each just over 1,000 inhabitants approximately equal.

History

Incorporations

Since 1 July 1972, the former municipality Helmste belongs to the municipality Deinste.

Origin of the name

Old names of Deinste are around 900 Tunstede 1315 Deinstede 1383 Deynstede, 1433 and 1500 Deyenste Deynstede. The root word of the name is derived from the Low German " stede " whose meaning can be interpreted as " place, place, settlement body". In the first part a person's name is to be assumed. Ultimately, from a basic form of " your -s- sted " assumed, out of a male personal name " Dego, Dago " and " sted ( e) ' is. The place name probably means "settlement of Dego or Dago "; " Dag " means " day, happy day ".

In the local elections on 11 September 2011 entered into the community Deinste next to the CDU and the SPD for the first time the CDU Community - Pro citizens. The CDU suffered heavy losses and lost its absolute majority. The SPD suffered heavy losses, while the CDU community got 28.49 % of votes.

Culture and sights

Apparently, the area was inhabited in the Neolithic period, for 1.5 km southeast of the village grave mounds were found by a silted lake. In studies in the 1950s while also a passage grave was discovered.
