Deinze is a Belgian city in the province of East Flanders with 29 724 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012).

The town about 20 km west of Ghent lying was first mentioned in 890 under the name Donsa and lies on the river Leie. Here flourished from the Middle Ages until after the First World War, the flax industry. The poultry market of Deinze has a supra-regional importance there every Wednesday determined prices for poultry and eggs are important basic data for the European Union.

Deinze consists of the following parts of Astene, Bachte Maria Leerne, Deinze, Gottem, Grammene, Meigem, Petegem -aan -de -Leie, Sint -Martens- Leerne, Vinkt, Wontergem and Zeveren.

The German twin town of Deinze is the Rhine river in Bonn.

Attractions

Ooidonk Castle was built in the 1595 Spanish-Flemish style on the foundations of spent fortress and is one of the most magnificent castles in Belgium. In addition to this is in place, the parish church of Our Lady from the 13th century, with its valuable furnishings from the 18th century. This church is a wonderful role model for the Scheldt Gothic style. In the part of congregation Astene you find a 5 km long truncated arm of the Lys. This is a paradise for fishermen.
