Deirdre Clune

Deirdre Clune ( born Barry, born June 1, 1959) is an Irish politician and since 2007 a ​​Member of the Dáil Éireann.

Clune attended the University College Cork, where she studied civil engineering. After her studies she became self-employed and worked for several years in Ireland and abroad. As the daughter and granddaughter of politician Peter Barry and Anthony Barry Deirdre Clune has always had an interest in politics. So she joined in 1997 after the withdrawal of her father from active politics for the Fine Gael successfully for election to the Dáil Éireann on. She was elected to the Cork City Council in 1999 and re-elected in 2004. In the election to Dáil Éireann in 2002 Clune lost her seat as a Teachta Dala and her attempt to be elected in the same year in the Seanad Éireann failed. As a member of Cork City Council 2005 to 2006 she held the office of Lord Mayor of Cork. This position has already been exercised prior to her by her father Peter and her grandfather Anthony. During her term as Lord Mayor of Cork was European Capital of Culture. May 2007 Clune was elected to the 30th Dáil Éireann; in the course of which she resigned her seat in the Cork City Council.

Deirdre Clune is married and the mother of four sons.
