Dejan Jakovic

Dejan Jakovic ( Serbian Cyrillic Дејан Јаковић; born 16 July 1985 in Karlovac, SFR Yugoslavia, now Croatia) is a native of Yugoslavia Canadian football player.

Club career

Jakovic moved with his family in 1991 during the Balkan conflicts to Toronto, Canada. Between 2005 and 2007 he played for the UAB Blazers, University of the team from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

In the summer of 2008 Jakovic completed a trial with Serbian club Red Star Belgrade and finally got a contract. At the start of the season he came under Zdenek Zeman some inserts ( three in the league, two in the UEFA Cup qualification), after his release in the early stage of the season he played no role under Zeman's successor Čedomir Janevski. In February 2009 Jakovic joined the American MLS side DC United.

National

During the qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in 2008 he formed together with André Hainault central defense of the Canadian Olympic team. The qualification has been missed by a 0-3 defeat in the semi-final against the United States. Two months earlier, he debuted in the Canadian senior national team when he came on in the friendly against Martinique.
