DeKalb County (Tennessee)

DeKalb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Smithville.

Geography

The County is located north-east of the geographic center of Tennessee and has an area of 852 square kilometers, of which 63 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Putnam County, White County, Warren County, Cannon County, Wilson County and Smith County.

History

DeKalb County was formed on December 11, 1837 from parts of Cannon, Jackson, Warren, White and Wilson County. It was named after Johann DeKalb, a German - American Major General of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.
