DeKalb is the largest city in DeKalb County in the north of the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2000, DeKalb had 39,018 inhabitants.

The name of the city

The city is named after the German - American General Johann de Kalb (French: Johann de Kalb ) named. Johann de Kalb was first in the French service, before he served in the Revolutionary War as a brigadier - general in the Continental Army and fell at the Battle of Camden.
