Del Andrews

Udell " Del " Sylvester Andrews ( born October 5, 1894 in St. Louis, Missouri; † 27 October 1942 Tonopah, Nevada) was an American film director and screenwriter.

Biography

Andrews worked as a director in the film industry in Hollywood and directed by his debut film, the comedic short film The Better Role from 1917, some 40 silent films until 1929.

At the beginning of the 1920s, he also took on a job as a screenwriter and wrote beside scenarios also intertitles for silent films. At the Academy Awards in November 1930, he was nominated alongside George Abbott and Maxwell Anderson for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the Western Front (1930 ) after the eponymous anti-war novel by Erich Maria Remarque.
