DeLand is a city and also the county seat of Volusia County in the U.S. state of Florida with 27,031 inhabitants.

Geography

DeLand is located about 40 km north of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 27,031 inhabitants distributed to 12,610 households. The population density was 657.7 inh. / Km ². 74.5 % of the population were white, 17.1% African American, 0.3% Native American and 1.9 % Asian Americans. 4.0% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.3% in different ethnic groups. 12.7% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 36.1 % of all households lived in 28.1 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 57.3 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.29 persons and the average family size is 2.97 people.

25.3% of the population were younger than 20 years, 25.7 % were 20-39 years old, 22.9% were 40-59 years old and 26.1 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 39 years. 45.4 % of the population were male and 54.6 % female.

The average annual income was $ 36,527, while 20.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 90.31 % of the population spoke Spanish 8.01% and 1.68 % had a different mother tongue.

Education

In DeLand is the Stetson University, was founded in 1833. The university is located next to the historic old town. 1900, the law school was founded. Stetson became the first Faculty of Florida. Here in 1960 the first black law student in the university until then white, enrolled.

In addition, DeLand one of four sites of the private " Florida Technical College ."

Traffic

DeLand is traversed or affected by the Interstate 4, U.S. Highway 17 (SR 15) and 92 (SR 600 ) and the Florida State Roads 11, 15A, 44 and 472.

The DeLand station is a station of the trains Silver Star and Silver Meteor train Amtrak on the route from Miami to New York City.
