Delaware City is a small town in New Castle County in the U.S. state of Delaware, USA, with 1695 inhabitants ( 2010) and is located on the Delaware River. The metropolitan area has a size of 3.4 km ².

History

The history of Delaware City can be traced back to 1801 when the family Newbold of New Jersey bought a small piece of land. In the years 1840-1880 there was a real peach boom, which made ​​known Delaware City for its peaches across the country. At that time there were around the city about 110,000 peach trees. At the same time one began with the commercial fishing and the production of sturgeon roe ( caviar), which was exported to Germany and Russia.
